The event began at 1:00 PM, with the poised and gracious Rhona Bandfield-Cox welcoming guests. Her voice carried both warmth and formality, setting the tone for a day that would be both ceremonial and heartfelt. Following her introduction, the room fell into a reverent hush as Denis Joseph led the opening prayer. Moments later, the voices of all present rose together for the National Anthem, a sound that filled the hall with pride and unity.

Mrs. George, the school’s principal, took the podium next, her opening remarks acknowledging the dedication of students and the tireless efforts of educators. Denis Joseph returned to the stage to deliver the opening speech, his words both encouraging and inspiring, reminding the audience of the potential within each young person present.

The atmosphere grew even more energized as Hon. David Andrew, the guest speaker, shared reflections on the importance of education, community, and perseverance. His speech was met with nods and quiet smiles from students who perhaps saw themselves in his words.

The award presentations followed — the moment everyone had been waiting for. The first category of awards was presented by Hon. David Andrew, while the second was presented by Mrs. George herself. Each recipient stepped forward to applause, their names called with pride:

  • D’Asia Alexander

  • Laureal Boatswain

  • Nathan Braveboy

  • Jordan Buckmire

  • Kentisha DeGale

  • Kimya Gibbs

  • Walter Joseph

  • Lemar Mark

  • Ocarchia Mitchell

  • Jewel Persue

  • Sameul Smart

In a particularly touching moment, Holy Innocents Anglican School received Special Recognition, presented by Hon. Andre Lewis, acknowledging its role in nurturing these bright young minds.

The program also highlighted creative talents through the Logo Contest, Voice-Over, and Dream Coutain segments — each a reminder that achievement comes in many forms.

As the formal portion came to a close, Kim Fullerton offered heartfelt closing remarks, thanking everyone for their contributions to the day’s success. The ceremony then shifted into a more relaxed atmosphere, with networking and refreshments giving attendees the chance to connect, share congratulations, and savor the pride of the day.

The first-ever Discover La Digue Student Award Ceremony was more than an event — it was a statement of belief in the youth of the community, a promise to celebrate excellence, and a memory that will inspire for years to come.
